Liquid Space: The Undersea Photography of Donald W. Whitehead

Scuba divers comprise a miniscule segment of society and ever more so when describing those of us who choose to dive the North Atlantic. Still it surprises me how little most people know about the undersea world along the New England coast, even among coastal residents and those who consider themselves sea lovers because they sail boats or cruise yachts.    Most people have never stuck their heads underwater long enough to take a really good look around and see what’s really goin’ on, up close and personal. Which probably explains a prevailing misconception that the North Atlantic is entirely too murky, colorless, lifeless and cold to be any fun to dive. There is some truth to that but not entirely so, not by a long shot as my galleries show.

But I’m not here to convince anyone that New England has some of the most fabulous diving in the world or to run right out and sign up for scuba lessons although it would be nice to meet some fresh new dive buddies. I’m not out to sell a point of view but I am out to sell photographs and books that will give you a fresh new view of just how fabulous our underwater world really is.    If viewing these photographs suspends your ordinary reality and takes you to another place even if only for a moment, please let me know for that is my measure of success. Please post a comment on my blog page and thank you for stopping by!
